Ranjha (Banke): The hotel industry in Lumbini Province has become a significant employment provider, directly employing 60,000 individuals. This sector, driven by around 11,000 hotel entrepreneurs, has made substantial contributions to the region’s economy, as stated by Bhaskar Kafle, the founding Chairman of the Hotel Entrepreneurs' Association in Lumbini Province.

Lumbini Province, consisting of 12 districts, has seen a significant investment in the hotel sector, totaling approximately Rs 200 billion from private investors. This investment generates nearly Rs 400 million in annual revenue for the State.

However, Kafle pointed out that the hotel industry, ranging from small and mid-scale establishments to star hotels, is currently facing challenging times due to the recent decline in tourism activity. He suggested that the government should consider implementing relief packages to help the industry recover gradually.

Mahendra Shrestha, Chairman of the Hotel Entrepreneurs Federation in Lumbini Province, emphasized the importance of tourism promotion in boosting the hotel business. He mentioned plans to name hotel rooms after local heritage and culture to attract more visitors. Shrestha also highlighted the need for a supportive governmental environment to foster growth in the hotel and hospitality sectors.

Shrestha believes that policy changes favorable to the hotel and tourism industry could significantly spur these sectors, thereby creating more job opportunities. He urged all three tiers of government to pay attention to the needs of the hotel industry to ensure its sustained growth and contribution to the economy.
