Damauli (Tanahun): General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), Bishwa Prakash Sharma, has emphasized the need to reform the appointment process in the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
Speaking at a regional conference organized by NC Tanahun Constituency-2 in Dulegaunda today, Sharma argued that the current legal provisions risk allowing political influence in appointments to the anti-corruption body.
“There is a need to appoint impartial individuals with more than 20 years of experience in law and administration through an open competition,” Sharma proposed. He believes that such a system would ensure fairer, more transparent operations within the CIAA.
“I’ve raised this issue at the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee in Parliament,” Sharma said. “I’m confident this topic will gradually become a matter of public debate. An open and competitive selection process can make a real difference.”
Clarifying the recent ordinance introduced by the government, Sharma said it was aimed at strengthening good governance.
On another note, Sharma informed attendees that the Nepali Congress general convention would be held before 2084 BS. “The party’s general convention has to take place before the general election scheduled for 2084,” he stated.
He further explained that, according to the NC statute and the Constitution, the general convention must be held within five years. “An extension is allowed, but only by a maximum of six months,” he noted.
