Patan (Lalitpur): Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized the successful implementation of Nepal’s constitution, asserting that it reflects the aspirations of all citizens.

Speaking at a program on ‘Nepali Congress’s Commitment to Human Rights: Practice and Reality’ organized by the NC Human Rights Department at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, on Thursday, Deuba stressed the importance of upholding democracy and the republican system.

“Restoring the monarchy is impossible,” Deuba stated, adding that democracy cannot be replaced under any circumstances. He urged political stakeholders to work towards making democracy and the republic permanent through effective governance.

NC Bagmati Province President Indra Bahadur Baniya highlighted the importance of utilizing the freedom of expression guaranteed by the constitution, while ensuring that it does not infringe on the rights of others.

Similarly, Constituent Assembly member and senior advocate Radheshyam Adhikari reflected on Nepali Congress’s historical role in promoting human rights. He noted that the 1990 Constitution, drafted under the leadership of Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, played a significant role in protecting individual freedoms, including abolishing the death penalty.
