Two Killed, 53 Police Injured in Violent Protests in Kathmandu

Kathmandu`: The District Police Range, Kathmandu, has expressed serious concern over the human and material damage caused by the violent protests in Tinkune.

Casualties and Injuries
According to police reports:

Two people were killed in the clashes:

-Sabin Maharjan (Kirtipur-4) succumbed to injuries at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

-Suresh Rajak, a photojournalist with Avenues Television, was trapped and killed in a fire at Marble House in Tinkune.

-53 Nepal Police personnel, 22 Armed Police Force personnel, and 35 protesters were injured in the violence.

Widespread Destruction
Superintendent of Police Appelraj Bohara detailed the extensive damage:

-9 government vehicles and 6 private or government vehicles were torched.

-14 separate incidents of arson were reported.

-9 institutions, including media houses, political party offices, and hospitals, were vandalized.

-One location was looted during the chaos.

Violence Erupts During Protest
Authorities reported that pro-monarchy protesters initially held a peaceful rally after securing prior permission. However, the situation escalated when demonstrators breached restricted areas, leading to widespread vandalism, arson, and attacks on public and private properties.

The police have urged for calm and have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the violence.
