Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba clarified on Tuesday that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is not responsible for the delay in appointing the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). Speaking at a policy dialogue on the upcoming budget held at the Congress central office in Sanepa, Deuba stated that the delay is due to internal issues within the National Bank, not political interference.

Deuba emphasized that PM Oli has supported the Congress party’s claim to the governorship, dismissing speculation of conflict within the ruling coalition. “The Prime Minister has not created any problem in the coalition or in the appointment process,” he said. “In fact, he supports the idea of Congress getting the governorship.”

He further noted that the coalition remains stable, underlining the difficulty for any single party to secure a majority under the current electoral system. “Our party is the largest, but we don’t have a majority,” Deuba said. “That’s why alliances are necessary, and currently, our alliance with UML and Oli is functioning smoothly.”

Reiterating the Congress party’s support for public-private partnership, Deuba also pointed out that the current government had passed an ordinance aimed at involving the private sector in development—a move that aligns with Congress’s policy vision.

In summary, Deuba’s remarks aimed to dispel rumors of coalition friction, attribute the delay in the central bank appointment to administrative issues, and reinforce the Congress party’s cooperative stance within the current government.
