Gorkha: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the return of an autocratic monarchy based on hereditary rule is no longer possible in Nepal.

Speaking at the inauguration of the administrative building of Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality in Gorkha on Tuesday, Dahal strongly opposed recent monarchist movements, stating that such ideas are outdated and unacceptable in the 21st century.

“The people of Nepal cannot accept autocratic rule or dynastic governance anymore,” he said, emphasizing that the federal democratic republic achieved through people’s struggle and sacrifice cannot be reversed.

Dahal referred to recent developments within the monarchist camp, alleging efforts to repackage royalist agendas by shifting focus from one figure to another. “After the Tinkune incident, they are trying to replace one face with another and revive the movement,” he said. “Such attempts will not succeed, but we must remain alert.”

The Maoist leader also warned the government against allowing public frustration to deepen, highlighting the need for proactive governance to maintain trust in the federal system.

Dahal asserted that Nepal has seen qualitative progress since the establishment of the federal democratic republic and urged continued efforts to strengthen it.

He also spoke about the historical collaboration between the Nepali Congress and the Maoist Center in achieving peace, the Constituent Assembly, and the republic. Despite differing political ideologies, he emphasized that there is no alternative to the two parties working together to uphold and sustain the peace agreement.

“Though we may differ on many political matters, maintaining peace requires unity between our two parties,” he added.
