Dolakha: Nepali Congress central member Ajay Babu Shiwakoti has emphasized that the party must now look to the future with responsible leadership, rather than relying on emotional memories of the past. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the BP Smriti Bhavan in Charikot, Dolakha, Shiwakoti laid out a comprehensive vision for revitalizing the party’s organization, leadership, and appeal.
Highlighting the importance of structural and ideological renewal, Shiwakoti said the Nepali Congress must be led “in a strong and new way,” with a culture rooted in service and strength. He urged that the party be transformed into a platform where the younger generation feels optimistic, the older generation feels proud, and the people feel satisfied.
Calling Dolakha the "foundation stone of Congress trust and history," Shiwakoti said that the new party office is not just a structure, but a symbol of sacrifice, determination, and commitment. He reminded attendees that Dolakha has historically been active in times of injustice, referencing its central role in the armed revolution of 2007 BS.
He described the ceremony as a call for organizational revival, ideological restoration, and leadership reconstruction, noting that addressing the concerns of the Gen Z generation is now essential. “Yesterday’s generation had emotional loyalty to the Congress. Today’s Gen Z seeks results and opportunities,” he said. “We must regain the trust of the past and attract the hopes of the future.”
Shiwakoti stressed the importance of respecting the contributions of senior leaders while empowering youth with leadership opportunities, digital access, and innovation. “The Congress must be a tree where the roots of trust and leaves of the future grow together,” he remarked.
He also underlined that as the leading party in government, the Congress must win public trust through accountability, and deliver results in governance, anti-corruption, federal coordination, and public service.
Speaking on the upcoming 15th General Convention of the party, Shiwakoti said it is an opportunity to rebuild the organization and future leadership. He called for a transparent and inclusive active membership campaign, unity at the grassroots, and greater representation of youth, women, Dalits, minorities, and indigenous peoples.
Shiwakoti also reminded elected representatives that they are the face of the party and must strengthen ties with the public through transparency and service. He described fraternal and sister organizations like Nevisangh, Mahila Sangh, Tarun Dal, and Trade Unions as the energy centers of Congress and urged a strategic plan to make them more active and accountable.
In conclusion, Shiwakoti stated that the future path of the Congress lies in organization, ideas, and dialogue, urging increased ideological clarity, engagement with cadres, policy innovation, and stronger ties with the public.
The foundation stone of the BP Smriti Bhavan, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 million, was laid by former General Secretary of the Congress and current National Assembly Parliamentary Party leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula. The building is expected to be completed within two years.
Other leaders present at the event included central member Zip Tshering Lama, Bagmati Province Minister Kundan Raj Kafle, and District President Burma Lama, among others.
