Kathmandu: The Entrepreneurial Congress organized a high-level interaction on the theme “The Country’s Economy and the Way Forward” in the capital, bringing together economists, policy experts, youth leaders, and administrators to discuss Nepal’s current economic challenges and future prospects. The event featured central Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala as the main speaker, who engaged in a direct dialogue with participants to gather insights and suggestions.
In his address, Dr. Koirala raised several critical questions about the economic delivery of the current government and the strategic role that the Nepali Congress should play in addressing national challenges. He invited expert input on issues such as employment generation, youth engagement in the economy, necessary policy reforms, and restoring public confidence in the national budget. Other key topics included reversing youth migration by creating economic opportunities at home, promoting transparency, tackling corruption, and fostering an investment- and startup-friendly environment.
The dialogue saw the participation of notable economists and policy specialists. Among them were Dr. Govinda Raj Pokharel, central member of the Nepali Congress and former Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission; Dr. Bimal Koirala, former Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal; and former Planning Commission vice-chairmen Dr. Prithviraj Legal and Jagadish Chandra Pokharel. Also contributing were prominent economists such as Prof. Dr. Bishwambhar Pyakurel, Prof. Dr. Binay Kusiyat, Prof. Dr. Om Sharma, and Prof. Dr. Sanjay Acharya. Experts in economic and political affairs including Puranjan Acharya, Dr. Rewat Bahadur Karki, Dr. Pratap Chhatkuli, Dr. Gyanmani Adhikari, and Associate Professor Nabin Khanal also shared valuable perspectives.
Ashmin Sitaula, President of the Entrepreneurial Congress, highlighted the diverse participation in the program, which included policy analysts, youth leaders, former government officials, professors, journalists, and constitutional experts. He described the exchange between Dr. Koirala and the experts as insightful and inspiring, adding that the ideas shared will help guide the Nepali Congress in its future policymaking.
Sitaula emphasized that the primary aim of the event was to encourage open discussion around Nepal’s economic crisis, employment, entrepreneurship, and long-term development strategy. He further expressed his commitment to organizing more such dialogue platforms to bridge the gap between experienced policymakers and the active younger generation.
