Malekhu (Dhading): Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that Nepal’s current inclusive and proportional electoral system makes it difficult for any single political party to achieve a clear majority. Speaking at a memorial event in Naubise, Dhunibeshi Municipality-7, on the 13th death anniversary of former Congress Dhading President Bharat Prasad Upreti, Deuba emphasized the need for internal party unity to improve electoral prospects.

“The current constitution is inclusive and representative of all castes, but it makes gaining a majority challenging,” Deuba said. “To achieve a majority, party unity is essential—start with unity from Dhading.”

Nepali Congress Vice President Dhanraj Gurung echoed this sentiment, stating that internal rivalries and retaliatory politics, especially over election tickets, have weakened the party. “We must stop sidelining capable leaders due to internal competition and instead promote fair democratic practices,” he said.

Several senior party leaders, including Gopalman Shrestha, Shashank Koirala, Agriculture Minister Ramnath Adhikari, and former Dhading President Ramesh Dhamala, paid tribute to late Bharat Prasad Upreti, recalling his lifelong commitment to democratic values.

Upreti, born in Naubise, Dhading in 1985 BS, passed away at the age of 97 on Ashar 28, 2082 BS, while undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in Kathmandu.
