Kathmandu: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has reported that 78.84 percent of the total paddy cultivation area across Nepal has been planted as of Sunday.

According to provincial data:

-Koshi Province: 80.39%

-Madhes Province: 51.82% (lowest progress due to insufficient rainfall)

-Bagmati Province: 87.19%

-Gandaki Province: 88.53%

-Lumbini Province: 92.04%

-Karnali Province: 91.38%

-Sudurpaschim Province: 98.94% (highest completion rate)

The ministry noted that overall sowing progress is slightly behind last year’s rate of 92.6% by mid-July. Officials attribute the slower pace, especially in Madhes Province, to a lack of adequate rainfall, which has delayed field preparation and transplantation.

Despite these challenges, sowing is progressing steadily in most provinces, with the ministry continuing to monitor weather conditions and assist farmers where needed.
