Morang: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has stated that the current coalition government is expected to continue until 2084 BS. Speaking to journalists at the Biratnagar Airport on Tuesday, Koirala emphasized that the government should now prioritize good governance by curbing corruption and ensuring that citizens feel the positive impact of state mechanisms.
Addressing recent political interactions, Dr. Koirala said it is normal for politicians to meet leaders from various parties and confirmed that he had held discussions with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari and current Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda).
Stressing the value of ethical conduct in politics, he remarked, “A politician must have morality, otherwise politics becomes a trap.” While the Constitution does not bar former Presidents or Vice Presidents from returning to politics, Dr. Koirala expressed his belief that it would be preferable if they refrained from doing so.
He also highlighted the need to fully implement the seven-point agreement that was reached during the formation of the current ruling coalition.
When asked about internal party matters, Dr. Koirala ruled out any immediate possibility of a change in the parliamentary party leadership within the Nepali Congress.
On the topic of party organization, he expressed confidence that the Nepali Congress general convention will be held as scheduled in 2082 BS.
