Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has remarked that prominent democratic leader Ganeshman Singh might have joined the Communist Party if deeper ideological dialogue had taken place during his time. Speaking at the 28th memorial program of Tulsilal Amatya, held at the CPN-UML central office in Chyasal on Saturday, PM Oli stated, "If there had been a more intensive conversation with Ganeshmanji, he would have joined the Communist Party." He added, however, that Singh ultimately aligned with the Nepali Congress due to the intellectual influence of BP Koirala.
During his speech, Prime Minister Oli also touched upon lesser-known aspects of Nepal’s political and physical culture history. He claimed that Dharmabhakta Mathema was Nepal’s first bodybuilder, noting that Mathema had even trained King Tribhuvan. “There was no other bodybuilder in Nepal before him,” Oli asserted.
In addition, the Prime Minister paid tribute to martyr Gangalal Shrestha, recognizing him as the founder of Nepal’s first human rights organization and the first person to deliver a political speech in the country. According to Oli, Gangalal gave a speech on human rights in 1995 BS and was forced to go underground after delivering an open political address at Indrachowk in 1997 BS.
The memorial program was organized to honor Tulsilal Amatya, a veteran communist leader and ideologue known for his contributions to leftist movements in Nepal.
