Kathmandu: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has emphasized the need for strong confidence and purity within the party to uphold its role as a national force. Speaking at a program organized to mark the memorial day of Nanda Prasad Shiwakoti, Thapa underlined that the Congress should never forget its identity as Nepal’s national power.
Congress Beyond Elections
Thapa asserted that a party does not become a national party merely by winning elections. “The Nepali Congress is a national party even when it is not contesting elections,” he said. “The party that fulfills the responsibility of national power is a national party.” According to him, a true national party is one that can move forward by understanding, analyzing, and addressing the country’s greatest challenges.
Need to Address Dissatisfaction
Pointing to widespread dissatisfaction across the country, Thapa said it is Congress’s responsibility to lead Nepali society out of the current situation. “We need confidence and purity,” he remarked.
Warning Against Compromising Values
He further clarified that gaining power at the cost of fundamental values and norms would render that power meaningless. Thapa stressed that principles should not be compromised in the pursuit of authority.
