Curfew Imposed Inside Kathmandu Ring Road Amid Heightened Tensions

Kathmandu: The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has issued a curfew order across the Kathmandu Metropolitan City ring road starting 8:30 am today until further notice.
Legal Basis and Restrictions
The order has been enforced under Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028. During the curfew, it is prohibited to move, gather, march, demonstrate, hold meetings, or organize sieges within the restricted area.
Curfew Zone
The curfew covers the entire area inside Kathmandu’s ring road, including:
-From Balkumari Bridge to Koteshwor Chowk, Sinamangal, Gaushala, Chabahil, Narayan Gopal Chowk, Gongabu, Balaju, Swayambhu, Kalanki, Balkhu to Bagmati River Bridge.
-Effectively, all areas encircled by the ring road fall under the restriction.
-Exceptions for Essential Services
According to the administration’s statement, essential service vehicles will be allowed to operate during the curfew. These include:
-Ambulances, fire engines, and hearses
-Vehicles of health workers, media personnel, tourists, human rights officials, and diplomatic missions
-Air passengers’ vehicles, based on valid air tickets
Security personnel have been instructed to facilitate the movement of these vehicles despite the restrictions.
