Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress Lalitpur Metropolitan Committee has recommended that the party hold a special general convention ahead of the upcoming general elections, which are being conducted under difficult political circumstances. In its formal suggestion to the Central Working Committee, the Lalitpur committee emphasized the need to contest the elections with new leadership to reinvigorate the party’s base.

Directly Elected Executive Chief Proposed
The committee further suggested that the Nepali Congress adopt the agenda of having a directly elected executive chief, aligning with the demands of the country’s evolving political situation.

Direct Election of Party Leaders at All Levels
In a move to strengthen internal democracy, the committee proposed that the posts of party president and office bearers at all levels be selected through direct elections by active members, eliminating the practice of electing regional and convention representatives. According to the committee, this reform would enhance the relevance and importance of active members within the party.

Call for Investigation into Leaders’ Assets
The committee also addressed the issue of unclaimed assets discovered during public actions on Bhadra 23 and 24, urging a thorough investigation. It recommended that any Congress leaders implicated should be suspended from their positions during the inquiry and that the party should fully cooperate in the investigation process.
