Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress (NC) has urged the government to immediately form a high-level judicial commission to investigate the incidents of vandalism, arson, and looting during the Gen-G movement. The demand was put forward during a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee held at its Sanepa headquarters, which was also damaged in the arson attacks on Friday.

Call for Justice and Accountability

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Min Bishwakarma, Chief of the NC’s Information, Communication, and Publicity Department, stated that the Gen-G movement had caused damage to public and private property worth billions of rupees. He stressed that the government must investigate the incidents thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Condemnation of Attack on Party Leaders

The party meeting strongly condemned the “inhuman and barbaric” attack on NC President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, as well as central committee member Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, whose private residence was also targeted. Bishwakarma conveyed the party’s best wishes for their speedy recovery.

Commitment to Protect the Constitution

The NC has also decided to hold extensive consultations with political parties, civil society, and stakeholders to safeguard the constitution of the federal democratic republic. The party reiterated its commitment to lead efforts for peace, democracy, progress, and prosperity.

Support for Legitimate Demands

While condemning violence, the party expressed its readiness to formally address the legitimate demands of the Gen-G generation, including ending corruption, ensuring good governance, and restoring social media access.

The NC has called on all party members to remain strong, united, and proactive in guiding the country toward stability and constitutional order.
