Kathmandu: The meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee has been postponed until Sunday, after failing to reach a consensus on the timing of the party’s general convention.
The meeting, held at the party’s central office in Sanepa, was deferred with the aim of achieving a mutual understanding and collective decision on the matter, according to party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat.
Dr. Mahat said that internal unity is crucial during the current national crisis. “More consultation and understanding had to be developed, which is why the decision to postpone the meeting was made,” he explained. “We will try to reach a conclusion in the interest of the party through inclusive discussions.”
He also emphasized that the general convention issue should be resolved transparently and not turned into a source of internal division, especially when the party needs to project unity.
General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa had been preparing to present a report outlining the agenda for the regular general convention, but the discussion could not move forward. Meanwhile, the establishment faction has been advocating to postpone the convention until after Mangsir, arguing that the immediate focus should be on the upcoming national elections and that a fixed schedule is not necessary at this stage.
