Ten Leftist Parties Announce Unity, Form 'Nepali Communist Party'

Kathmandu: A new political unity among ten leftist parties was announced today at a special ceremony held at Bhrikutimandap, in the presence of top leaders including Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Prachanda Selected as Coordinator

With the unification, Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has been selected as the coordinator of the newly formed party, named ‘Nepali Communist Party’. The party has adopted the five-pointed star as its election symbol.

Parties Involved in the Unity

The unity includes the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist), Nepal Socialist Party, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Nepal Communist Party, CPN (Maoist Socialist), CPN (Communist) and others.

Ideology and Guiding Principles

The new party has announced Marxism-Leninism as its guiding principle and scientific socialism with Nepali characteristics as its future program.
Unified Socialist leader and member of the Unity Coordination Committee, Pramesh Hamal, said that the move was essential to strengthen the communist movement and achieve socialist transformation through good governance, social justice and economic change.

Party Structure and Leadership System

The unified party will have posts of coordinator and co-coordinator at all levels—from the central committee to provinces, districts, municipalities and wards.
The party will function under the principle of democratic centralism and collective leadership, as agreed in the unity document.

National General Convention in Six Months

All nine participating parties have agreed to hold a Unity National General Convention within six months. The formation of the central committee and other structures will be done through mutual agreement.

Proposal Passed Unanimously

The Unity National Conference held in Kathmandu on Wednesday endorsed the proposal naming Dahal as coordinator and Unified Socialist Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal as co-coordinator. The conference also passed the party’s internal statute and political manifesto.
