Kathmandu: An all-party meeting convened by Prime Minister Sushila Karki at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Friday afternoon discussed preparations for the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives, scheduled for Falgun 21.

During the meeting, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari briefed the participants on the Election Commission’s ongoing preparations.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, representatives of the Election Commission, and top leaders from major political parties, including General Secretary Gagan Thapa and leader Pushpa Bhusal of the Nepali Congress; General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and leader Mahesh Bartaula of the CPN-UML; and Shishir Khanal and Sobita Gautam from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), among others.

Following the meeting, government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel informed that the security agencies had assured full preparedness to ensure a safe election environment.

“They have clearly stated that the security agencies are ready to provide security for the elections to be held on Falgun 21,” Minister Kharel said.

He added that the Election Commission has already advanced its preparations and that the government is committed to creating a conducive environment for the polls.

Minister Kharel also noted that a few political parties expressed concerns about the security situation. “One or two parties have said that the security environment should be strengthened further. This is reasonable, and efforts will be made to improve it,” he added.
