Kathmandu: The Election Commission has urged all stakeholders to act responsibly, warning that misuse of technology could undermine the fairness of the upcoming elections.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari called on individuals and media outlets not to share misleading content generated through Artificial Intelligence (AI) on social media. He also cautioned media organizations against conducting opinion polls or publishing projected election results before voting takes place.

According to Bhandari, the Commission has taken serious note of attempts to predict election outcomes based on informal voter conversations or pre-election surveys. It stated that such activities could influence voters’ independent decision-making and discourage candidates.

While acknowledging that technology has improved the flow of information, the Commission stressed that its misuse poses risks to electoral integrity. It has urged the public, media, and political actors to strictly comply with the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, and help maintain a healthy and fair competitive environment.
