Election Commission Publishes Proportional Representation Seat Allocation

Kathmandu: The Election Commission has determined and made public the number of seats political parties will receive under the proportional representation (PR) system for the House of Representatives.

Six Parties Cross Threshold
According to the Commission, the seat distribution has been finalized based on the total number of valid votes secured by parties that crossed the three percent threshold as stipulated in the House of Representatives Members Election Act 2074.

Under the proportional system, the Rastriya Swatantra Party has secured 57 seats, followed by the Nepali Congress with 20 seats and the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) with 16 seats.

Similarly, the Nepal Communist Party has obtained 9 seats, while the Shram Sanskriti Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party have each secured 4 seats.

Vote Counting Completed
The Commission stated that vote counting under the proportional representation system has been completed and seats were allocated as per its decision on Thursday in accordance with Section 60 of the Act.

Voter Participation
In the House of Representatives election 2082, out of 18,903,689 registered voters, 11,683,032 cast their votes under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system, of which 11,559,017 votes (94.55 percent) were valid.

Similarly, 11,280,617 voters participated in the proportional representation voting, with 10,835,025 votes (96.05 percent) considered valid.

Parties Asked to Submit Candidate Names
The Commission has also sent letters to the concerned political parties requesting them to select and submit the names of their proportional representation candidates within three days, in accordance with the provisions of the Election Act and related guidelines.
