Sabitra Bhandari Raises Over Rs 14.5 Million for ACL Treatment, Thanks Supporters

Kathmandu: Nepali national women’s football team captain Sabitra Bhandari, popularly known as ‘Samba’, has announced that the required funds for her ACL surgery and treatment have been successfully raised within 24 hours of her appeal.
Strong Support from Home and Abroad
Bhandari expressed gratitude to supporters through social media, stating that more than Rs 10 million was deposited in her Nepali bank account, while approximately Rs 4.5 million (NZD 52,000) was raised through international platforms. She said the overwhelming support, trust, and encouragement made her mentally stronger during a difficult time.
As the collected amount is expected to cover treatment, accommodation, and transportation expenses in Qatar, she has requested supporters to stop further donations.
Additional Assistance and Institutional Support
Bhandari also informed that her club will provide insurance coverage for surgery and rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress announced financial support of Rs 500,000 for her treatment. Former All Nepal Football Association President Ganesh Thapa pledged Rs 50,000, and Kathmandu Medical College offered free treatment if she chose to undergo surgery in Nepal.
Determined to Return Stronger
Out of action for nearly two months due to the knee injury, Bhandari said she is physically and mentally exhausted but encouraged by the public’s support. She expressed confidence that the surgery date will be fixed soon and vowed to return stronger to represent Nepal again in the national jersey.
