Kathmandu: The Nepali Congress has removed Krishna Prasad Sitaula from the position of leader of its National Assembly parliamentary party and appointed Kamala Panta as his replacement.
The decision was made on Wednesday by Bhishma Raj Angdembe, the party’s parliamentary leader in the House of Representatives. According to the party’s statute, the House leader has the authority to appoint and remove the leader of the National Assembly parliamentary party.
Sitaula, who had been involved in parallel activities within the party, was increasingly viewed by some leaders as an obstacle to internal unity. Acting under Article 12(2) of the party statute, Angdembe formalized his removal and Panta’s appointment.
Alongside this move, Angdembe also reshuffled other key positions. Abhishek Pratap Sah has been nominated as deputy leader of the parliamentary party, while Basana Thapa has been appointed chief whip and Niskal Rai as whip.
The changes are seen as part of efforts to strengthen party unity and streamline parliamentary coordination.
