Kathmandu: Nepal Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has called for the reunification of Nepal's communist movement, saying communist forces should unite to safeguard national independence and provide leadership for the country.

Speaking at a programme on Saturday marking the 13th memorial day of veteran communist leader Nar Bahadur Karmacharya, Prachanda said the time had come for communist parties to overcome divisions and move forward with a shared commitment to the nation.

Tribute to Nar Bahadur Karmacharya
Prachanda described Karmacharya as a principled, honest and humble leader who remained dedicated to class struggle, communist ideology and revolutionary politics throughout his life.

He recalled spending nearly six years under Karmacharya's guidance while preparing for the Maoist "People's War," saying the two frequently discussed revolutionary strategy and political developments.

Unity Was Karmacharya's Guiding Principle
According to Prachanda, Karmacharya consistently believed that Nepal's communist movement should remain united.

Referring to Karmacharya's confidence in his leadership, Prachanda said: "When Comrade Nar Bahadur Karmacharya spoke about 'Prachanda' as his preferred leader, it was not an ordinary remark. It reflected deep thought and conviction."

Calls for Revival of the Communist Movement
Prachanda said history has validated the vision of Nepal's first Communist Party General Secretary, Pushpalal Shrestha, but argued that the communist movement is currently facing significant challenges.

He stressed that the movement now requires renewal and unity to regain its strength and play a leading role in national politics.

More Than a Formal Tribute
Prachanda urged party members not to treat memorial events as mere ceremonial occasions.

Instead, he said such programmes should serve as an opportunity to reaffirm commitments to:
-Defending Nepal's national independence and sovereignty.
-Reuniting the communist movement.
-Resisting what he described as authoritarian tendencies.
-Working collectively to lead the country toward political stability and national development.

He concluded by saying that remembering leaders such as Pushpalal Shrestha and Nar Bahadur Karmacharya should inspire renewed commitment to the ideals they championed.
