Kathmandu: In a recent development, the police have apprehended another absconding defendant involved in a fraudulent scheme that promised to send Nepali citizens to the USA using forged documents of fake Bhutanese refugees.
Ashish Budhathoki, the accused individual, was arrested from Mandikhatar in the capital city, according to Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal from the Kathmandu District Police Range.
It has been revealed that the funds collected by the perpetrators were deposited into Budhathoki's bank account. Despite being listed as an absconder, a case had already been filed against him in the Kathmandu District Court.
The District Attorney Office in Kathmandu has also filed cases against former ministers Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Bal Krishna Khand, as well as former home secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, and others involved in the fake Bhutanese refugees scam.
The case is currently being examined, encompassing multiple charges including fraud, organized crime, and treason. Authorities are diligently pursuing the legal process to hold those responsible accountable for their involvement in this elaborate fraudulent scheme.
