Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is set to depart for Italy on Saturday, 22 July 2023, to participate in the United Nations Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+2). The event, scheduled to take place in Rome from 24 to 26 July 2023, is an essential gathering organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Accompanying the Prime Minister on this significant international summit will be his daughter, Ganga Dahal, as well as Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Beduram Bhusal, and Member of National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr. Jay Kant Raut. Additionally, other senior officials from the Government of Nepal will join the delegation.

As the Chair of LDC Group, Prime Minister Prachanda is scheduled to deliver the opening address at the official session of UNFSS+2 on Monday, 24 July 2023. Furthermore, he will actively participate in the Plenary Sessions on School Meals and Food System Transformation in Practice, slated for 24 July 2023 and 25 July 2023, respectively.

During the summit, Prime Minister Prachanda is also expected to engage in bilateral meetings with eminent personalities from the UN system, such as the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), and the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), among others.

Additionally, on the sidelines of the event, the Prime Minister will take the opportunity to connect with the Nepali community in Italy, attending a special program organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Italy.

After the productive participation in the UNFSS+2 summit, Prime Minister Prachanda will return to Kathmandu on 28 July 2023. This engagement signifies Nepal's commitment to addressing critical issues related to food systems and reinforcing its role in the global community's efforts to combat hunger and malnutrition.
