Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has announced that the government is taking essential measures to bring about significant improvements in the public transportation service in the Kathmandu Valley.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructures and Transport is actively working towards introducing large-size buses in the region, with the goal of reducing traffic congestion and improving commuting options.

During a meeting with stakeholders at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, PM Dahal revealed plans to implement the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system along the Ratna Park-Surya Binayak road section from September 18.

The BRT service, initially intended to run only during office hours, will now be tested as a trial service even after office hours. To ensure its success, the Prime Minister urged the concerned officials to provide traffic signals, deploy traffic police, raise public awareness, and install traffic lights as necessary.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of directly benefiting the residents of the Kathmandu Valley through these preparations. He also directed the Ministry to facilitate the operation of 40 buses from Sajha Yatayat, which were unable to run due to the lack of charging stations for the electric buses.

PM Dahal proposed establishing charging stations at the Pulchowk-based land of Sajha Yatayat, along with exploring options for additional charging stations in various locations within the Valley.

The Ministry has already made considerable progress in this regard, with a task force consisting of officials from the Department of Transport Management and the Department of Roads conducting a study on the operation of the BRT service. Furthermore, out of the 51 charging stations constructed across the country, a significant number are already operational.

The Prime Minister's proactive approach and commitment to improving public transportation are expected to positively impact the daily lives of Kathmandu Valley residents, providing them with more efficient and reliable commuting options.
