Kathmandu: After a span of nine months since the parliamentary elections, the leadership of ten thematic committees under the House of Representatives (HoR) will be determined today. These committees encompass a wide range of areas including finance, international relations and tourism, industry and commerce, labor and consumer interests, law, justice and human rights, agriculture, cooperative and natural resources, among others.

A meeting scheduled for 3:00 pm today will finalize the selection of committee presidents. The nominations for these positions were submitted on Sunday by various political parties including the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), and Janamat Party.

Out of the 10 committees, nine have received sole nominations for their respective presidencies. However, the Industry and Commerce and the Labor and Consumer Interests Committee have seen competition with two nominations.

Federal Parliament Secretariat spokesperson, Yekram Giri, clarified that a sole candidacy would be declared victorious without an election, while a contest would lead to a voting process.

The newly elected committee presidents are set to be sworn in on Monday. This marks a significant step in the formation of the parliamentary committees after a considerable period since the elections.
