Kathmandu: Chief Justice Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha highlighted the importance of establishing an effective and transparent criminal justice system to garner public trust. Speaking at an event commemorating the 73rd anniversary of the Office of the Attorney General, CJ Shrestha stressed the need for a clean and convincing criminal justice system.

He emphasized the modernization of the criminal justice system, urging improvements in the quality of investigation and prosecution. Acknowledging the significance of international developments in investigation and prosecution standards, CJ Shrestha called for the adoption of best practices and a well-trained workforce.

The Chief Justice also reminded the audience of the constitutional provision for justice with compensation and highlighted the essential qualities of attorneys, including competence, professional integrity, and accountability.

During the event, Joint Attorney General Hari Prasad Regmi was honored with the 'Best Attorney, 2080' award. Former Attorney General Agni Kharel was also recognized on this occasion, which coincides with the annual observation of the appointment of the first Attorney General, Kali Prasad Upadhyay, on Poush 8, 2008 BS. The day holds significance and is celebrated every year.
