Kathmandu: Celebrating its one-year milestone, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT) has maintained a strong commitment to enforcing laws, shaping policies, and advancing technological initiatives. The ministry's efforts have centered around improving telecommunication infrastructure, promoting e-governance, and fostering digital inclusion for public services.

Throughout the year, MoCIT has made significant strides, such as expanding optical fiber coverage to 15,000 km and increasing fixed broadband accessibility to 39.67 percent. Integrating government offices with the Nagarik App has expanded to 62 offices, and mobile broadband coverage has reached an impressive 94.88 percent. Notably, ongoing projects like the Digital Nepal Framework and the implementation of the Digital Nepal Acceleration Project with support from the World Bank underscore the ministry's commitment to technological progress.

In terms of legislation, MoCIT has been actively involved in drafting and considering bills related to printing, public service broadcasting, and media regulation. Several policies, including the National Cyber Security Policy and Radio Frequency Policy, have received approval. The ministry is also venturing into the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) with the development of a concept paper, guided by consultations with industry experts.

MoCIT's dedication extends beyond connectivity to addressing digital disparities, ensuring cyber safety, and tackling cybersecurity challenges. The ministry maintains constant vigilance through its dedicated cybersecurity monitoring center. Initiatives like the 'Digital Nepal Acceleration Project,' virtual interactions like 'Meet Your Minister,' and collaborations with international partners for courier services demonstrate MoCIT's comprehensive approach to advancing technology and connectivity in Nepal.
