Kathmandu: Six media trade union organizations have called for the timely election of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ). In a joint statement, Press Chautari Nepal, Press Centre Nepal, Samajwadi Press Association Nepal, Progressive Journalists Association Nepal, People's Journalist Association Nepal, and Revolutionary Press Association expressed concern over the slow progress in finalizing the voter list as the election date approaches.

The organizations urged the relevant bodies to expedite the process to ensure the election is held on schedule. They also requested that the updated list of FNJ members be submitted to the Election Committee immediately, and that the names of working journalists excluded from the list be included.

The three-year term of the FNJ working committee, elected during the 26th convention, ended in April 2024. However, there is ongoing confusion about the selection of new leadership and the handover to the new committee.
