Kathmandu: Today marks Matatirtha Aunsi, commonly known as Mother's Day in Nepal, celebrated nationwide with deep reverence and respect. This special day falls on the auspicious occasion of Baishakh Krishna Aunsi.

Traditionally, Mother's Day involves rituals such as morning baths, tenderly offering beautiful garments and delectable foods to mothers, and seeking their blessings. For those who have lost their mothers, the day is commemorated by performing shradda, a ritual to honor departed souls, with a belief that it relieves one from maternal debt.

In Nepalese culture, the position of a mother holds significant importance, often revered even higher than deities according to scriptures. It is customary to cherish and respect parents during their lifetime and to perform shradda ceremonies with utmost reverence upon their passing.

In remembrance of mothers, a fair has been organized at Matatirtha Kunda (pond) in Chandragiri Municipality-6, offering devotees the opportunity to take a holy dip in the pond, believed to symbolize the liberation from maternal debts. Today's festivities serve as a poignant reminder of the unconditional love and sacrifices made by mothers, honoring their invaluable presence in our lives.
