Kathmandu: Tragedy struck Nepal over the past 24 hours as the country faced a barrage of natural disasters, totaling 44 incidents, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). Official reports confirm 14 fatalities and two individuals missing in these calamitous events.

Dr. Dijan Bhattarai, spokesperson and under-secretary of the NDRRMA, revealed that 10 people sustained injuries, with property losses exceeding Rs 1.9 million. The disasters caused widespread devastation, including blocked roads in 10 locations and the loss of 14 cattle.

The most affected areas included Okhaldhunga, Sankhuwasabha, Sunsari, Udayapur, Ilam, Dhankuta, Lamjung, Kaski, Morang, Jhapa, Rolpa, Dailekh, and Baglung. Among the casualties, eight lost their lives and five were injured in landslides, while lightning claimed the lives of five individuals and left three injured. Additionally, one person perished and two were reported missing due to flooding.

Dr. Bhattarai highlighted a rescue operation in Sernathumki, Chisangkhugadhi rural municipality of Okhaldhunga, where two injured individuals were airlifted to Kathmandu for urgent medical treatment.

Authorities continue to assess the aftermath and extend support to affected regions as the nation grapples with the aftermath of these devastating natural calamities.
