Kathmandu: The Ministry of Health and Population has urged all government offices to run a 'mosquito search and destroy' campaign to combat the rising dengue cases.

Spokesperson at the Ministry, Prakash Budhathoki, stated that the ministry has called on all government and non-government organizations, as well as hospitals, to maintain cleanliness in and around their premises every Friday. This initiative is in response to the growing number of dengue cases.

Last year, the Ministry of Health had also directed a similar campaign to address the dengue outbreak. This year's directive includes conducting vigilance and awareness programs about dengue infection in their respective offices.

Budhathoki emphasized that the government would cover the medical expenses of dengue patients at government hospitals. He urged government hospitals to manage the treatment of dengue-infected individuals, establish a 'dengue desk' on hospital premises, and appoint a contact person for dengue-related issues.

The spokesperson highlighted the need for cooperation from all provincial and local level governments, noting that dengue infection cannot be controlled solely by the efforts of the health sector. This year, 2,365 people from 73 districts have been infected with dengue, and one person has died so far.
