Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has clarified that the recent understanding between the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN (UML) is not intended to oppose any other political parties. He emphasized that the alliance is aimed at advancing democratic practices in the country.

Speaking at a program organized by the School of Democracy on the second memorial day of socialist thinker Pradeep Giri, Deuba highlighted that the collaboration between the two major political parties was forged to ensure the success of the socialism-oriented constitution, which is grounded in pluralism.

"The two-party consensus was made to advance the nation. It would be wrong to construe this agreement as being against certain political parties. The agreement signed between the two major parties is not kept secret. We have made it public," Deuba stated.

Deuba, who is also a former prime minister, stressed the need for constitutional amendments to address issues that have surfaced during its implementation.

At the same event, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal reflected on the late Pradeep Giri's significant role in encouraging top leaders to pursue a democratic republic, particularly during the People's Movement-II, when the then king addressed the nation.

CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel acknowledged Pradeep Giri's legacy, noting that future generations will remember him as a socialist thinker of Nepal.

CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Shakti Bahadur Basnet also praised Giri, noting that his political thought and approach made him popular across all political parties.

Other speakers, including Loktantrik Samajwadi Party leader Dr. Surendra Jha, Nepali Congress central leader Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, Giri's spouse Bharati Silwal Giri, and NC leader Nainsingh Mahar, also paid tribute to Giri's contributions to Nepal's political and socialist movement.

Pradeep Giri, born in Siraha in 1947 (2004 BS), passed away on August 20, 2022 (4th Bhadra, 2079 BS).
