Kathmandu: The death toll from the recent floods and landslides across Nepal has risen to 233, with 22 people still missing. At least 169 individuals have been injured in these disasters, according to Rishiram Tiwari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs.
So far, 17,120 people have been rescued from the affected areas as the government prioritizes rescue and relief efforts. Authorities are also focusing on repairing disaster-hit highways and ensuring the operation of transport services.
The adverse weather conditions were caused by the influence of monsoon winds and the partial effects of a low-pressure system formed in northeast Assam, India, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. Several provinces, including Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki, have experienced light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, and further heavy rainfall is expected in some areas.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division has urged people in flood-prone regions to remain alert for potential risks of floods, landslides, and inundation due to the likelihood of heavy rains in the coming days.
