Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) federal lawmakers have committed to donating 15 days' worth of their salary to aid relief efforts for victims of recent natural disasters across the country. The decision was made during a meeting of the NC parliamentary party, held in response to the devastating floods, landslides, and inundation caused by heavy rains on September 27 and 28 in various districts.

The meeting, chaired by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba at his residence in Budhanilakantha, expressed deep sorrow over the significant loss of lives and property caused by the calamities. Lawmakers extended their condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.

The death toll from the recent disasters has reached 148, with 55 people still missing and 100 others injured, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Deuba, also the former Prime Minister, urged the current government to expedite the reconstruction of key public infrastructure, including roads, bridges, schools, health posts, and police stations, which were damaged by the recent rainfall-triggered disasters. He also emphasized the need for the immediate rehabilitation of those displaced by the floods and landslides.

Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire stated that the lawmakers pledged their financial contribution to be channeled through the government and encouraged all members of the federal parliament to support the relief efforts in their capacities.
