Kathmandu: The ruling parties, CPN (UML) and Nepali Congress (NC), have established a joint mechanism to streamline and improve the functionality of Nepal's three-tier governance system. This initiative aims to ensure more coordinated operations across federal, provincial, and local levels.
The newly-formed, eight-member committee includes four leaders from each party. The CPN (UML) representatives are Senior Vice-Chairperson Ishwor Pokharel, Finance Minister and Vice-Chairperson Bishnu Poudel, General-Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, and Deputy General-Secretary Bishnu Rimal, who also serves as a political advisor to the Prime Minister. The Nepali Congress is represented by Vice-President Purna Bahadur Khadka, General-Secretary Gagan Thapa, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba.
CPN (UML) publicity department chief Rajendra Gautam explained that the primary goal is to make the operations of all three government levels more effective. To further bolster coordination, the mechanism will be expanded, with a three-member team in each province and a two-member team in every district.
This collaborative structure underscores the commitment of both parties to enhance governance and cooperation across all administrative levels, promoting greater efficiency in public service delivery and policy implementation.
