Kathmandu: Climatologists are linking variations in Nepal's monsoon system to the broader impacts of climate change. The delayed retreat of this year's monsoon, which withdrew 10 days later than usual, is being seen as a direct result of global warming.

Climatologist Manjit Dhakal explained that the late monsoon withdrawal reflects an altered monsoon pattern, likely influenced by climate change. He also pointed to the heavy rainfall on September 27 and 28 as another possible consequence of these changes. However, Dhakal emphasized the need for further research to understand the full extent of climate-related hazards.

Dhakal suggested prioritizing climate adaptation programs and climate-friendly development strategies for sustainable growth, citing the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) findings.

Meteorologist Bishnu Ghimire echoed Dhakal's concerns, stating that more research is needed to confirm the links between climate change and monsoon irregularities, although he also noted a clear shift in the monsoon pattern.
