Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced a fresh approach to boost agriculture and create jobs in Nepal. Speaking at an event organized by the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) to mark the 7th Social Security Day, he pledged to improve agricultural productivity and ensure fair distribution of resources.
PM Oli emphasized his desire to make visible progress during his time in office without putting a burden on future generations. He said the government's new policies would focus on making improvements that people could directly experience.
Highlighting the efforts of GEFONT, Oli praised the organization for leading important labor movements. He added that his party, CPN (UML), had introduced social security programs inspired by these movements. The Prime Minister expressed confidence in seeing more progress in social security within the next year.
PM Oli criticized the tendency to make labor-related decisions without consulting key stakeholders, including workers and contributors. He assured that any such issues in the Social Security Fund would be addressed.
GEFONT President Binod Shrestha also spoke at the event, pointing out that the social security fund was not worker-friendly.
On the occasion, PM Oli honored local leaders actively working on social security initiatives. Those recognized included Ghanashyam Subedi (Phedikhola Rural Municipality), Hridaya Lama (Bhimphedi Rural Municipality), Khadga Bahadur Khadka (Baansgadhi Rural Municipality), Dil Prasad Rai (Belbari Municipality), and Kedar Prasad Guragain (Sundar Haraicha Municipality).
