Kathmandu: The silence period for the upcoming local-level by-elections has officially begun as of midnight today, restricting all election-related publicity and campaigning activities in line with the election code of conduct.
The Election Commission (EC) has prohibited events such as assemblies, interactions, workshops, and digital campaigns, including soliciting votes through social media platforms like Facebook, Viber, and SMS, during this 48-hour period before the election day. The by-elections are set to take place on December 1.
The EC has emphasized the importance of ensuring that the by-elections are conducted in a free, fair, and impartial manner. It has also implemented monitoring measures to enforce the code of conduct and prevent violations during this crucial period.
Spokesperson Nita Pokharel highlighted that election-related activities would remain banned until the completion of vote counting. These measures aim to create a neutral environment for voters to make their decisions without undue influence or pressure.
The by-elections will fill vacancies in select local levels, with the EC ensuring that all necessary arrangements are in place for a smooth electoral process.
