By-election: Nepali Congress Retains Kirtipur Municipality Mayor Post

Kirtipur (Kathmandu): Krishnaman Dangol of the Nepali Congress has been elected Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality in the by-election held on Sunday.
According to the Election Commission, Dangol secured 5,334 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Shiva Sharan Maharjan of the CPN (Maoist Center), who garnered 4,555 votes. Dr. Surendra Manandhar of the CPN (UML) came third with 4,337 votes.
The by-election was necessitated following the demise of Rajkumar Nakarmi, the former mayor elected in the 2079 BS local elections from the Nepali Congress.
Among other candidates, independent contender Rajman Maharjan received 2,036 votes, Kabi Kumar Maharjan secured 1,314 votes, Dinesh Kumar Adhikari garnered 1,048 votes, and Dhruv Maharjan of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party received 995 votes.
