Local Governments Play a Key Role in Development

Mahottari: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has highlighted the importance of local governments as the closest governing bodies to citizens. Speaking at the inauguration of a newly constructed administrative building of Manra Siswa Municipality on Friday, the former Prime Minister emphasized that efficient and accessible services from local governments are crucial in fostering a sense of good governance among citizens.
Deuba urged local representatives to make their service delivery more accessible and technology-friendly. He stressed that local governments hold the responsibility for agricultural development, infrastructure enhancement, and the conservation of natural and religious heritage. Their strengthening is essential for the overall success of the federal government, he added.
Focus on Agricultural Growth and Infrastructure
The former Prime Minister advised local governments to increase agricultural production, develop markets for local produce, and promote agricultural advancements. He also called for the exploration of local skills, the management of vocational training, and the creation of job opportunities. Additionally, he encouraged efforts to expand road networks, markets, and irrigation facilities to improve local livelihoods.
As a ruling party leader, Deuba pledged to coordinate with local governments to support their development initiatives at the federal level.
Honoring the Legacy of Martyrs
During the event, former Deputy Prime Minister and Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi reminded attendees that Manra Siswa has a rich history of democratic struggles. He recalled that it is the birthplace of martyr Mithilesh Dube, who sacrificed his life during the People’s Movement of 2036 BS. Nidhi urged local governments to uphold the spirit of the martyrs by working for the progress and welfare of the people.
Details of the Newly Inaugurated Municipality Building
Mayor Mohan Pande shared details about the newly constructed three-story office building, which was built at a cost of Rs 72 million, funded jointly by the municipality and the federal government. The building includes 26 rooms, along with a meeting hall with a capacity of 300 people. Additionally, the infrastructure has been designed to be disabled-friendly, ensuring accessibility for all citizens.
The event marked a significant milestone in enhancing local governance and service delivery, reinforcing the commitment of local leaders to development and good governance.
