Thai Investors Show Interest in Nepal After PM Oli’s Call

Bangkok: Businesspersons from Thailand have expressed a strong interest in investing in Nepal following Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's appeal to explore opportunities in sectors like tourism, hotel industry, and construction raw materials.
During a discussion with Thai entrepreneurs, investors raised inquiries about legal facilitation, profit repatriation, and foreign currency reserves in Nepal. They were keen to understand the business climate and investment potential in the country.
A delegation of Nepali industrialists and entrepreneurs also encouraged Thai investors to take advantage of Nepal’s untapped opportunities.
Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, Economic and Development Advisor to PM Oli, who attended the meeting, stated that discussions revolved around investment-friendly policies and the Nepali government's commitment to facilitating foreign investment. He noted that investors from the construction, hotel, food processing, and tourism industries expressed eagerness to enter the Nepali market.
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Chairperson of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), also participated in the meeting and highlighted Nepal’s recent legal reforms to remove investment barriers. He emphasized that government-backed investment insurance has further encouraged Thai entrepreneurs.
During the discussions, PM Oli underscored Nepal’s plans to produce 10,000 MW of electricity under its agreement with India, presenting huge opportunities in the energy sector. Additionally, both sides explored tourism sector collaboration, with Nepal being a high-potential destination for Thai visitors.
