Kathmandu: A main ceremony committee has been formed under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to celebrate Republic Day 2082 with grandeur. The decision was made following a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, where proposals presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs were discussed and approved.

The committee includes key figures such as the Deputy Prime Minister, various Ministers and Ministers of State, the Mayors of Kathmandu and Lalitpur Metropolitan Cities, the Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal, the Chief of Army Staff, and senior officials from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and National Investigation Department. The Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs will serve as the member-secretary of the committee.

The government has also announced the formation of level-level committees and sub-committees to coordinate events marking Republic Day, which will be observed on Jestha 15 (May 28). Celebrations will span three days — Jestha 14, 15, and 16 — and include the lighting of lamps at all public institutions every evening.

In addition, Republic Day will be marked at Nepali embassies, diplomatic missions, and consulates around the world. The main national celebration will take place at the Military Pavilion (Sainik Manch), Tundikhel on Jestha 15.

Prime Minister Oli urged for widespread public participation in the celebrations and emphasized that the event should not be reduced to a mere formality. He also instructed that all designated ex-officio members must ensure their presence and take active roles in the committee's responsibilities.
