Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has dismissed recent calls for the restoration of the monarchy, referring to them as a "tamaasa" or spectacle. His remarks come in response to demonstrations led by royalists on Jestha 15 advocating for the return of former King Gyanendra Shah.

Speaking critically, Oli said it was inappropriate to keep raising the issue of reinstating the monarchy, suggesting that such discussions were being fueled by baseless predictions and nostalgia.

"Now some astrologer turns the calendar and claims, 'If not the grandfather, then the grandson will be king.' Others take to the streets making similar claims. This kind of drama unfolded again today," he remarked.

The Prime Minister's comments reflect the government’s stance amid renewed public displays of support for the former monarchy.
