Kathmandu: CPN-Maoist Center General Secretary Dev Gurung has launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, accusing him of posing a direct threat to the current governance system in Nepal.

Speaking to News Agency Nepal in Kathmandu, Gurung alleged that Prime Minister Oli is continuously undermining the democratic system, engaging in efforts to split political parties and weaken state institutions. He questioned whether the current House of Representatives will be able to function until the next general elections scheduled for 2084 B.S., stating that the more pressing concern is whether the existing political system itself will survive.

According to Gurung, Oli’s political conduct contradicts the spirit of the peace agreement, and his intentions do not align with safeguarding the current democratic framework. He expressed concern that Oli could attack the system at any time, allegedly under the influence of undisclosed “power centers.”

Gurung emphasized that the responsibility to protect the political system lies with all political parties. “Only by uniting around the principles of democracy, the constitution, and national sovereignty can we preserve the gains of the current system,” he stated.

He further remarked that the legislature has frequently been used as a political tool and warned that the threats to the democratic order are far from over. In this context, Gurung predicted a greater communist unification by 2084 and asserted that the communists would emerge as the country’s largest political force.

These comments come at a time when monarchist sentiments are reportedly on the rise in some quarters, adding to the political uncertainty in the country.
