Dolakha: Seven climbers, including foreign nationals and Nepali guides, were killed after an avalanche struck a climbing team in the Gaurishankar–Rolwaling mountain range on Monday morning. The incident occurred near the base camp of Yalungri Himal in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9.

Victims Include Nepali and Foreign Climbers

According to police, the deceased include:

2 Nepalis

3 Americans

1 Canadian

1 Italian

Four others are still missing.

A total of 15 foreigners were part of the expedition team, accompanied by Nepali guides.

Avalanche Hit Around 9 AM

Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Kumar Mahato said the avalanche struck the team at around 9 a.m. while they were progressing toward the summit.

Rescue Hampered by Delayed Permission, Bad Weather

Ward Chair Nimgeli Sherpa said rescue efforts were delayed because the area falls under a restricted helicopter flight zone, and administrative approval took hours.

Even after a helicopter was deployed, it failed to reach the site due to adverse weather conditions.

Search Teams En Route

Police said search and rescue efforts are underway, with personnel from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force mobilised toward the avalanche zone.
