125 Political Parties Registered, Election Commission Informs Parliamentary Committee

Kathmandu: The Election Commission has informed that 125 political parties have been registered so far in preparation for the upcoming elections. The update was shared during a meeting of the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee under the Federal Parliament on Friday.
18 Parties Await Registration, 9 Under Review
According to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, 18 political parties have applied for registration, and the documents of 9 parties are currently under consideration. He said the registration period for political parties wishing to participate in the election is open from Mangsir 1 to 10.
“Parties that have received registration certificates by mid-Kartik can register for election participation within this period,” spokesperson Bhattarai clarified.
Lawmakers Call for Peace and Security During Elections
National Assembly members present at the meeting emphasized that elections are essential to uphold the constitution and resolve the ongoing political crisis. They urged the government to make reliable arrangements for peace and security during the polls.
MP Jag Prasad Sharma accused the government of failing to create an election-friendly environment, citing incidents of arson and vandalism at polling stations amid ongoing agitation.
Concerns Over ‘Gen G’ Movement
MP Bishnukumari Sapkota said citizens have been living in fear due to the ‘Gen G’ movement, calling on the government to pay special attention to public safety. Lawmakers collectively urged authorities to ensure a secure environment so that the upcoming elections can be held in a peaceful and credible manner.
