EC Unveils Election Schedule for March 2026 HoR Polls

Key Dates Published for FPTP and Proportional Systems

Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) has formally announced the schedule for the House of Representatives (HoR) election set for March 5, 2026. 

The detailed programme for both the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) and proportional representation systems has been published on the EC’s website and in the Nepal Gazette following a meeting of the Commission on Sunday.

FPTP Nomination on January 20
Under the FPTP system, candidate nominations will take place on January 20, 2026, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Office of the Returning Officer. The initial list of candidates will be made public the same day between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

Final Name List and Election Symbols on January 23
The final list of FPTP candidates will be published on January 23 between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Election symbols will then be distributed from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on the same day.

Proportional Representation Process Begins December 6
The election programme for the proportional electoral system will commence on December 6. Political parties intending to contest must file applications between 10:00 am on December 7 and 4:00 pm on December 9.

Closed Lists Due December 28–29
Parties must submit their closed lists of proportional representation candidates on December 28 and 29. The final list of candidates under this system will be published on February 3, 2026, between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Voting on March 5
As per the approved election schedule, voting will take place across designated polling centres from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on March 5, 2026.
